Good morning, peeps. Or afternoon, or evening, or whenever it is that you happen to be reading this. It’s been a long time since I have posted anything, and I like to think there’s a pretty good reason for it. Life happened. And by that I mean that we bought a house.
There she is, in all her 1970’s glory. She comes with shag carpet (naturally it has tones of orange, red, yellow and green), wood paneling, a mustard yellow tub and sinks, so much wallpaper, and some truly horrendous window coverings. But we love it. Structurally it is great shape and we are really happy that we get to give it the care and attention it deserves. It will be a long, slow slog to get things updated, but we are excited at the prospect.
A bit more about the house later. For now I wanted to tell you a little bit about the blog (that’s why you are here, after all☺). The blog just ended up taking a back burner during the house hunt because it ended up being a very stressful process. There were some frustrations with the lender that led to some sleepless weekends. I tend to deal poorly with stress and as someone who has battled depression for years, it was really tough going for a little while there. In the end it all worked out, but we had some definite hiccups. As I took care of home buying and of my own mental health, the blog was just set aside for a little while there. We are finally somewhat settled and last weekend I took some time to test some new recipes and photograph a couple recipes that I have been perfecting over the summer. Very long story short, recipes are returning. Yay!! I am really excited to get back to editing photos, calculating nutrition, writing up recipes and sharing them with you all. Thanks for your patience and I really hope you enjoy what’s coming.
Now for those of you who want to read a bit more about our new (old!) house, go ahead and read on.
We were living in a place without a yard, so we were really happy to get a space with a nice, private, gated yard. We have an old dog (she refuses to age backward, though I have asked her several times). In any case, I am happy that we could give her a yard for her golden years. Oh and notice that cement block up there in the back right hand area of the yard? That is a pond that is fed by a natural spring. Yes, our yard has a spring, which we can use to irrigate the lawn. We hope that one day we can get the pond refinished, or possibly apply a tile mosaic to it so that it isn’t such an eyesore. But for now it is at least a talking point when we have guests.
Do you want to see my kitchen? The pic below is from before we bought the home, during the home inspection. We have since replaced the stove and fridge (and removed the clutter!), but you get the general lay of where I test recipes.
Okay, that is all I have for you for now. Look forward to some new recipes, possibly as early as tomorrow.
Best,
Kathy
